Heat Pumps

Heat pump installation

One system. Every season. Up to 3× more efficient.

A modern cold-climate heat pump heats and cools your whole home for a fraction of the energy of an old furnace and AC — and it qualifies for the largest state and utility rebates available to homeowners today.

The problem

What the old way costs you.

Your old system burns money twice

A 15-year-old furnace or AC has lost a quarter of its efficiency — you pay more every month for less comfort, and repairs get more expensive every year.

Fuel costs keep climbing

Oil, propane and electric-resistance heat are the most expensive ways to heat a home. Utility rates have risen about 4% a year — waiting has a price.

Two systems, twice the failure points

Separate heating and cooling means two installs, two maintenance schedules, and two things that can quit on the worst day of the year.

The Nu way

What you get instead.

Heats and cools everything

One system replaces your furnace and AC — including true cold-climate performance rated well below 0°F.

200–300% efficient

Heat pumps move heat instead of making it, delivering 2–3 units of heat per unit of electricity. No flame, no flue, no fumes.

Room-by-room comfort

Ducted or ductless mini-split designs give every room its own perfect temperature — even that one bedroom that's never right.

The rebate heavyweight

Heat pumps attract the largest incentives in nearly every market we serve — often thousands of dollars, plus 0% financing programs.

Rebates & incentives

This is where the big money is

The biggest number in a heat pump project is the waste it eliminates — replacing oil, propane or electric-resistance heat can cut heating costs dramatically, every month, for the life of the system. In Massachusetts and New York we go further: programs like Mass Save and NYS Clean Heat pay real money toward the upgrade, and we confirm what your address qualifies for and file all the paperwork before installation. In our other markets, your plan flags any incentives your address may be eligible for.

FAQ

Heat Pumps — straight answers.

Do heat pumps really work in cold Northeast winters?
Yes. Modern cold-climate heat pumps are rated to deliver full heating capacity at 5°F and keep working well below −13°F. They're the standard in Maine, Vermont and Scandinavia — far colder than most of our service area. We only design with cold-climate-rated equipment in heating-dominant markets.
Will a heat pump really lower my bills?
If you heat with oil, propane, or electric baseboard, savings are usually dramatic. Versus an efficient gas furnace, the math depends on your local electric and gas rates — that's exactly what your free efficiency plan calculates before you spend anything.
Ducted or ductless — which do I need?
If your ducts are in good shape, a ducted heat pump can drop into your existing setup. Homes without ducts (or with bad ones) get ductless mini-splits — small wall units that give each room its own zone. Many homes do best with a mix. Your plan includes the recommended design and why.
How much of the cost do rebates actually cover?
It varies by state, utility and income level — from around a thousand dollars to programs that cover a large share of a whole-home system. When we build your plan we verify current program terms for your exact address. In Massachusetts and New York we file everything for you; in our other markets, your plan shows exactly what applies and how to claim it.
